Follow-up Comment #1:

Decided to limit the warnings to just -Wall, without -W. -ansi -pedantic
would be nice, but currently the gnulib sources don't appear to match that
criterea, so we'll leave that out.

-Wall has not been added to the Makefile.am; it's probably
compiler-dependent, and I'm not sure it's worth an appropriate test in
configure.ac. For now, I'm just passing CPPFLAGS=-Wall to the configure script
as an argument.

Fixed for mainline in 5bf5d7313411.
